How to wash farm work clothes
Farm laundry is the hardest mix there is: petroleum from equipment, organic soil from livestock and silage, plus mineral dust from the field — frequently in the same pair of coveralls.
1. Separate the chemical clothes
Clothing worn while handling crop-protection products should always be washed separately from everything else — separate from family laundry and separate from your other work clothes. This is standard guidance from extension services and product labels. Follow the specific instructions on the product label you were handling; some garments are designated for disposal rather than laundering.
2. Shake out dry material outside
Field dust, chaff, and dried mud come off easier dry. Wetting them first sets the soil into the weave.
3. Pre-treat hydraulic fluid and grease
Equipment oil is the soil most likely to survive a cycle. Hit it with degreaser, work it in, and wait 5–10 minutes before washing.
4. Wash warm with a clean-rinsing detergent
Warm water releases petroleum so the surfactants can carry it out. Skip fabric softener — it coats the fiber and traps barn odor rather than removing it.
5. Air dry and check before heat
If diesel or barn odor is still there after air drying, the soil is still in the fabric. Rewash with the Booster before it goes anywhere near a dryer — heat sets both.

Barn odor is trapped soil
